Happy new year!




Dispite everythin, I had a great year.

A company based on my tech got funded.

I got to fly again.

I joined the ISO WG14. I'm now represent Sweden in the C standard.

I went really deep in to Undefined behaviour.

I lit up a building in London.

I made a presentation on HxA.

I built an awsome team.

I got a new name. Im now Eskil Steenberg Hald

Software i had a tiny hand in making was on the cover ofTime Magazine

And, yes I got to see the birth my son Vincent!





My state of mind can be summed up like this.

I hope you too have had a great year under these difficult circumstances.

Fiction book of the year
Project Hail Mery, It the martian again but different!


Non-Fiction book of the year
Iwata Speaks. Wisdom from Nintendos CEO who sadly passed away in 2015.


Light source of year:
The Halo Horrizon. I'm dabating if its worth 1500€, but its hard to say no to having a view of Mars in your house.


Tweet of the year
A single tweet that redesigned the rocket that will take us to the moon and mars.


Company of the year:
ASML, They make the machines that makes the machines. And its mind bending. The machines they build are works of art, and the physics and precision they harness is the peek of human achievement.


Song of the year:
Ive always been a huge fan of the Chemical brothers, but i think they peeked with Surrender 20 years ago. So I was surpriced that this year they released possibly their greatest track. "The darkness that you fear"


Revival song of the year:
Martha & the vandellas "Dancing in the street". My son and I are great fans of this groove (And we are in good company. Please note Marthas, understated yet so perfectly smooth moves. Thats one cool lady.


Tour of the year:
EverydayAstronauts tour of Starbase with Elon Musk. Part one is the best, because Elon talks about his 5 step Engineering Philosophy, Its gold worth for everyone who has ever tried to buld something,


Getho Magic of the year:
Whatever the hell this skateboard video is:

TV Show of the year:
Arcane. A beautiful and surpricingly good show, that uses its artstyle to full effect.

Hardware of the year:
The DJI Ronin 4D. Part camera, part drone, part rooster.


Car of the year:
T50. The last great Super car. The level of attention and focus is incredible. The aluminum door handles are 3D printed so that they could be hollow to reduce weight.


Fasionista of the year
Mark Bryan, a 61 year old robotics engineer. May we all aspire to his style (and legs)


Paper of the year:
Liquid-Metal-Enabled Mechanical-Energy-Induced CO2 Conversion Its this kid of stuff that tells me that engineering is the answer to so much.


Demo of the year:
There by Still


Science of the year:
James web telescope. Its a thing that gets first gets shaken on a rocket to the tune of 4.5g, and then has to travel 1.5 million kilometers and then unfold a 6.5 meter mirror so that the tip to tip tolerance is the distance of 5 atoms.



Game trailer of the year:
Homeworld 3. I have no idea if the game is going to be any good, but i have always loved the world of Homeworld, and this does not disapoint. (If you are a fan of RTS keep an eye out for Frost Gigant)

Game of the year
I had a lot of good times in farcry 5/6/new dawn this year, but I would really like to recomend buying Notch instead. For the price of game you get more fun then i have had in a 3D tool in years.

Loss of the year
Cinefex closed its doors this year. For people of a certain age, with certain dreams this is a farewell to a good old companion, that meant a lot to us.


Thing i learned year:
Its ok if people are wrong about you.


Plans for the new year:
Many Many things. But im going to try to make an effort to consume more.
No, not natural resources, but to dedicate time to reading, playing and watching, away from creating.


Best of the year:
It's taken a lot of energy to not put this little guy as the winner in every category, because he rocks my world.
